Curtis Lacrosse Booster Club
The Curtis Boys Lacrosse Booster Club is a volunteer non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to support the Curtis High School Boys Lacrosse program. Through its fundraising efforts and support groups the club helps to fund tournaments, uniforms, team building activities, academic tutoring, and miscellaneous needs of the Boys High School program. It is through the Booster Club that donations and volunteer support can be contributed to establish a truly top tier program. Contributions are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.
Lacrosse is a club sport at Curtis. The school is very supportive of our program. Each player pays a fee to play to help cover costs of field usage, transportation, uniforms, league fees and a head coach stipend, unlike varsity sports which are free. As a Booster Club we raise funds for additional things the team needs. Last year some of the funds we raised from our advertising sales, donations and other fundraiser went to pay coaching stipends for assistant coaches and JV coaches as the time commitment for these positions is immense.
We also paid for tutors to assist players. Curtis Lacrosse believes in academics first and foremost. WIAA rules require that a student maintain a 2.0 grade point average to remain eligible to play. Our coach requires the boys to maintain a 2.5 gpa. Players falling below are required to attend tutoring during practice times until their grades improve.
Many of our away games are over an hour away so we used funds to purchase snacks and drinks for players on the ride home. Just a little something until they get home to a meal.
Because we believe that being involved in your community is also important, the team does volunteer work. Last year we had 8 boys volunteer to help coach youth teams through the local youth program. Thirty-two players also spent four hours working in Homestead Park doing weeding, planting and bark spreading to get the park ready for spring and summer visitors. Currently we are in discussions with the City of University Place Parks Maintenance department to help out with some special park projects. We are also going to provide help at this year's Festival of Trees.
As you can see we are very proud of our program and our boys. We hope you’ll consider volunteering for the booster club and helping the team. Feel free to contact any of the Booster Club Board Members if you have questions or would like to volunteer.
